We are glad to inform you that Tulip Qingdao was baptized last Friday, April 25, 2014, by Mr Wang Guangzheng Ph.D., the Vice Mayor of Qingdao Municipal Government.

The triumph tulip cultivar Qingdao is raised by J. en P. Snoek en Zonen B.V. and was supplied by Jan de Wit en Zonen B.V. The cultivar is a gift from the Province of Noord Holland, to commemorate the opening ceremony of the International Horticultural Exposition 2014 Qingdao and the inauguration of the Holland Horticultural Garden by the city of Qingdao and the Province of Noord Holland.

Now that the tulip has been registered and baptized, the Royal General Bulb growers Association (KAVB) will take care that this new tulip name Qingdao will be permanently listed in the International Register of Tulip Names.

The certificate of the baptism was signed by Mr Wang Guangzheng Ph.D. , Vice Mayor of Qingdao Municipal Government, Mr J. van Scheepen, Taxonomist of the KAVB, Mr J.J.P. van Run, Vice Governor of the Province of Noord Holland, and Jan de Wit, director of Flower bulb company Jan de Wit en Zonen B.V.

This cultivar was selected by us for its strong growing power, the big flowers, heavy plants, and the nice red colour combined with a small yellow edge. This is the most popular colour combination for tulips in China. It is the same colour combination as the national flag of China.
