Herewith we would like to inform you about the current situation for the crop 2011 tulip bulbs. The tulip planting has been done under very difficult circumstances last Autumn. There was a lot of rain from August until winter. The fields were very wet and the soil structure was not good. This is not a good start for the tulips and usually has a negative influence on the growing. The cut flower price for tulips on the flower auction is very good this winter. The expectation is that the tulip flower price will remain good until Valentine’s day on February 14 and International Woman’s Day on March 8. Besides, the Easter Holidays are very late in April this year so that the tulip flower season will continue 3 weeks longer than last year. The flower price in late March and April depends very much on the weather. If the spring weather starts early the demand for tulips is shrinking and the flower prices will be lower. The total planted acreage of tulips is about the same as last year. Within the range of varieties there are some changes. The acreage of the varieties suitable for the cut flower production has increased and the acreage suitable for the dry sale has mostly decreased. Especially the acreage of the cheap bulb varieties like Van Eijk has decreased very much. Because of the above mentioned reasons, the tulip business is starting earlier this year. The Dutch cut flower growers have started their purchase of the good lots of the popular varieties already. The bulb prices are stable in Maybe you should also consider to make an earlier start with your purchase this year. We would like to ask you if you can send us your first inquiries for the tulips per colour and maybe also for scarce varieties, which are especially popular in Current situation crop 2011 Tulip bulbs
