Damage caused by bacteria If the infection is serious, in stead of the growing of healthy young bulbs, a kind of cauliflowerish parasitic bulbs with a great number of narrow, scaly organs are developing. If the infection is less serious, then the base and the under part of the outside scales of the stem bulbs are more thick. Depending of the grade of infection the planted bulbs make no or a few roots. The sprout can be deformed considerably and in the next growing season the plants will not come up.
