Damage by animal organisms The attack mainly happens in the bulbs, with which the growing of the plant can be retarded. The stem grows curved and sometimes the young sprouts are rotted just before or shortly after coming out of the soil.Diseases: Rhizoglyphus species 
Under the ground, small holes of one or more millimetres in the scales of the bulbs are found. In parts of the plants that are located under the ground insect damage can be found.
